‘By Kids, For Kids’ Poster Contest Winner Announced!
CONGRATULATIONS GO OUT TO SHANA NEWELL AND HER GRADE 6 CLASS FROM FOREST RIDGE ACADEMY IN BARRINGTON, NOVA SCOTIA – WINNER OF THE CANADIAN CENTRE FOR CHILD PROTECTION’S BY KIDS FOR KIDS POSTER CONTEST!
Open to all grade six classes across Canada, the ‘By Kids, For Kids’ poster contest was a part of the Canadian Centre for Child Protection’s Smart, Strong and Safe initiative. The goal of this contest was to help children understand that child sexual abuse and exploitation are never their fault, and that they do have a voice and a right to be safe. Through four lesson plans and activities in the Be Smart, Strong and Safe booklet, educators across Canada were able to help teach their students such things as the difference between healthy versus unhealthy relationships, what it means to respect or break personal boundaries, and about trusting their instincts. The poster contest was meant to enhance the lessons by giving students the chance to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the issue in a creative, visual way.
OUR THANKS GO OUT TO ALL SCHOOLS WHO PARTICIPATED, AND TO ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR INCREDIBLE POSTER SUBMISSIONS.

This winning poster will be reproduced and distributed to nearly 10,000 Canadian schools during the 2011-2012 school year to help spread the message to students that child sexual abuse is not okay, it’s never their fault and that it’s okay to tell.
